Arturo Sandoval Septet
Arturo Sandoval was born in 1949 in Artemisa, a small town in Cuba, on the outskirts of Havana. He was discovered by Dizzy Gillespie, the first musician to bring Latino influences into American jazz. Sandoval started studying classic trumpet when he was twelve but was fascinated by Charlie Parker and Clifford Brown’s bebop and achieved his dream of playing alongside these great jazz artists. With Gillespie he played in concerts in Europe and Cuba, and later joined the United Nations Orchestra. Since then he has become well known among the top stars on the international jazz trumpet and flugelhorn scene. He is also widely recognised as a classical pianist, and composer. His career is marked by playing with great performers such as Woody Herman, Woody Shaw, Michel Legrand, Bill Conti, Stan Getz and Frank Sinatra, and he has earned no fewer than 19 nominations, 10 Grammy, 6 Billboard and 1 Emmy.
At the Stresa Festival Sandoval will be on stage with a widely affirmed group of six musicians, with whom he has recently recorded an album combining sax, piano, guitar, bass, battery and percussion.
