A tragedy that envelops you – this is the version of Giuseppe Verdi’s opera that will be staged for Stresa Festival. This is how the playwright and director Gianmaria Aliverta imagines and wants it, and for more than 12 years now this new way of staging opera has travelled the world, with VoceAllOpera. The spectator is at the center of the action, close to the singers. This completely changes the audience’s perspective, and shifts them gently into the midst of the story. For the first time they can appreciate all the nuances of the main personages’ actions, as the barrier between spectator and stage is eliminated. The actors move among the public while they sing so the opera really comes to life, and the spectators are almost close enough to touch the agonising Gilda. There are no stage changes, no painted backdrops to light up! The audience too will move around, to take comfortable seats in various corners, to watch the scenes acted out in the different areas.
