The Voices

Unaccompanied groups of singers are becoming increasingly popular, and Accent has cut out its own niche. Inspired by the magic jazz harmonies of Take 6, and before them The Hi-Lo’s, the six singers in Accent met through YouTube ten years ago, thanks to their shared passion for a capella jazz groups. Now, in a sort of world tour, Accent will take its audience on a trip through various musical influences, all with their characteristic arrangements, varied types and compositions, some new and some ‘evergreen’.
The program spans widely, from Bach to standard jazz and the Beatles, from the classic choir to contemporary pop, all bound by the sumptuous harmonies of Accent. Alan Paul of Manhattan Transfer had this to say about Accent: “You youngsters are carrying on the tradition of vocal groups.”
This evening’s selection includes standard jazz and Bach, a traditional Jewish psalm, and music by Michael Jackson, together with some original compositions written specially for the group.
